• Goreme Panorama
  
  The most magnificent scenery around Göreme is composed of solidified lava flows, ash and tuff stones, all from the Neocene period. It was crossed diagonally by deep valleys formed by intense erosion. This true lunar landscape is distinguished by its extensive geological formations. The highly typical morphological structures of Cappadocia are the result of thousands of years of continuous erosion that has transformed the tuff deposits into the strangest pyramids and cones.
• Derinkuyu Underground City
  
  Derinkuyu Underground City has all the usual amenities found in other underground complexes in Cappadocia, such as wine and oil presses, stables, cellars, warehouses, dining halls and chapels. It is a large room with a barrel vaulted ceiling, unique to the Derinkuyu complex and located on the second floor. It is rumored that this room was used as a madrasah, and the rooms on the left were classrooms. There is a vertical staircase between the third and fourth levels. This passageway leads to a cruciform church on the lowest floor. It is understood that the 55 m large ventilation shaft was used as a well. The shaft also supplied water to both the villagers above and those in hiding if the outside world was not accessible.

  Ihlara Valley was one of the first places settled by the first Christians fleeing Roman persecution. With the defensive structures on Mount Hasan, which provided defense against Arab invaders, the churches carved into the rock were able to carry on their peaceful worship. Ihlara valley preserved these rock houses and churches with frescoes and allowed us to admire this unique historical treasure. These frescoed churches and residences are scattered along the road from Ihlara to Selime along the valley.

• Selime Monastery
  
  Selime Monastery, with its cathedral-sized church, is the largest religious structure in Cappadocia. There are two rows of rock columns inside the cathedral. These columns divide the cathedral into three parts. The size of the church is astonishing. The columns and arches of the church, which were carved from tuff directly inside the Selime monastery, still bear the marks of the various generations that once lived here. Primitive icons from the early days are more clearly visible, but detailed frescoes painted later are barely visible under the soot that covered the surfaces during the years when the Turks used the room for cooking.

  Pigeon Valley, thousands of dovecotes carved into the rocks. It's a surreal vision: an extremely phallic landscape straight out of a Salvador Dali painting. Conical formations are the result of volcanic eruptions that occurred millions of years ago. Over the ages, wind, rain, and other forces of nature eroded the volcanic rock, forming tuff, a soft and malleable stone. Many of these cones, known as fairy chimneys, have caves and labyrinths.

  Cappadocia has onyx mines where the best quality onyx is found (green onyx with brown veins is the highest quality, followed by beige with brown veins). Local artisans specialize in making beautiful vases, chess sets, and many other attractive artifacts and trinkets, as well as pieces of jewellery. Watch a demo showing how this very hard and brittle stone is cut, shaped and polished before seeing the many beautiful onyx products. Workshops often sell hand-forged copperware, meerschaum pipes and other traditional and valuable items such as precious and semi-precious stones, silver, and jewelry made of 22 and 24 carat gold. Local specialties include Hittite-style jewelry and traditional Turkish woven silver bracelets. You will be surprised at the cheap prices!
